Reconciliation

In Kosovo, a society still healing from conflict and marked by complex migration dynamics, JRS recognizes reconciliation as a vital part of its mission.
Rooted in our global Strategic Framework and the Jesuit mission of justice and reconciliation, JRS Kosovo sees reconciliation as a journey of building right relationships between refugees and host communities, among diverse ethnic and religious groups, and within our own teams.
The wounds of past conflict, economic insecurity, and the marginalization of vulnerable groups, including returnees, ethnic minorities, and migrants, make the work of reconciliation both urgent and challenging. Refugees and asylum seekers in Kosovo often encounter indifference or social distance, shaped by unfamiliarity, stigma, or broader political discourse that emphasizes exclusion over solidarity.
Through our daily presence in reception and detention centres, community visits, and public awareness efforts, JRS Kosovo creates spaces of encounter, dialogue, and mutual understanding. We promote reconciliation by supporting inclusive education, offering psychosocial support that fosters dignity and healing, and engaging youth and communities in cultural exchange and joint initiatives.
Our aim is to strengthen social cohesion by empowering communities to become agents of reconciliation fostering empathy, breaking down prejudice, and affirming the humanity of each person, regardless of background or legal status.
