Livelihoods

At JRS Kosovo, improving livelihoods is more than supporting economic self-sufficiency. It is about restoring dignity, building confidence, and creating pathways to belonging and participation in society.
In the context of displacement and return, access to livelihood opportunities becomes a foundation for sustainable integration, reducing dependency, and promoting social cohesion.
Refugees, asylum seekers, and repatriated persons in Kosovo bring with them skills, knowledge, and a strong desire to rebuild their lives. However, they often face significant barriers to employment, including legal limitations, lack of recognition of qualifications, language difficulties, and discrimination.
JRS Kosovo supports livelihoods through a multi-dimensional approach focused on:
- Skills development: providing vocational training, language courses, and capacity building tailored to the needs of refugees and returnees;
- Economic empowerment: supporting individuals, particularly women and youth, to access small grants or start income-generating activities such as tailoring, food production, or digital services;
- Networking and integration: facilitating connections with local businesses, municipalities, and employment services to help displaced persons access the job market and establish social and professional networks.
In collaboration with local institutions, private sector actors, and civil society organizations, we advocate for the right to work and strive to build inclusive systems that create opportunities for all, regardless of status. Livelihoods support is not only about income: it is about restoring a sense of purpose, belonging, and hope for a dignified future in Kosovo.
