Education

At JRS Kosovo, we believe that education is a fundamental right and a pathway to hope, dignity, and integration for refugees and forcibly displaced people

In a country that continues to navigate its own post-conflict development, ensuring access to education for those seeking protection is both a moral imperative and a vital investment in the future of a cohesive society.

For children and youth who have fled their homes, education offers stability and a sense of normalcy. It fosters resilience and helps them imagine a future beyond displacement. For adults, access to learning opportunities, including language and vocational training, opens doors to employment and greater participation in community life.

In Kosovo, many asylum seekers, refugees, and returnees face barriers to accessing formal education, from language differences and documentation issues to gaps in recognition of prior learning. JRS Kosovo works closely with schools, municipalities, and other stakeholders to help overcome these challenges. We support enrolment, accompany families through the process, and offer non-formal education activities that complement the formal system. In line with the JRS global mission and the right to education as enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 1951 Refugee Convention, JRS Kosovo remains committed to ensuring that displacement does not interrupt the journey of learning. Whether in public schools, community centres, or reception facilities, we work to ensure that education is accessible, inclusive, and adapted to the real needs of people on the move.
