“This is the best 8th of March gift I have ever received” – Celebrating women’s empowerment
23 October 2025

On International Women’s Day, we had the privilege of joining an Iftar gathering at the Finnish Residence in Pristina, hosted by the Finnish Embassy, where we shared an evening of reflection, gratitude, and solidarity with the women beneficiaries of our socio-economic empowerment project. This initiative, supported by the Finnish Deaconess Foundation and funded by the Government of Finland, plays a crucial role in equipping women from marginalized communities with the skills and opportunities they need to build independent futures.
The evening was a reminder of how meaningful support can change lives. Participants shared their personal experiences, highlighting how the project has shaped their journeys and provided them with new possibilities. Edita Muharremi, one of the beneficiaries, described the gathering as a special moment, saying, “This is the best 8th of March gift I have ever received.” Her words reflected the gratitude and optimism of many women who have found strength and hope through this initiative.
For Adela and Kimete Bahtiri, sisters from the Roma community in Mitrovica, the support they have received has been transformative. They shared how, for many women, opportunities for personal and professional growth remain scarce, making projects like this even more vital. “The support may seem little from the outside, but for all of us, it is a life-changing moment,” they expressed, emphasizing the deep impact such initiatives have on their lives.
The event also underscored the significance of collaboration and shared commitment to gender equality, social inclusion, and economic empowerment. The presence of Ambassador Matti Nissinen and Deputy Head of Mission Sanna Tavi highlighted Finland’s continued dedication to these values, reinforcing the importance of fostering opportunities where women can thrive and become self-sufficient.
Through partnerships like this, we are not only supporting individual women but also strengthening communities, creating lasting change, and paving the way for a more inclusive future. We extend our gratitude to the Embassy of Finland, the Finnish Deaconess Foundation, and all those who contribute to empowering women in Kosovo and beyond.
As we move forward, we remain dedicated to expanding opportunities, amplifying voices, and ensuring that women, no matter their background, have the support they need to build a future filled with dignity, independence, and hope.
