Cinema magic: A day of joy for refugee families

23 October 2025

A day filled with excitement, laughter, and shared experiences, this is how we would describe our recent outing with children and their parents to the cinema. Organized as part of our ongoing efforts to foster moments of joy and connection, the activity brought together refugee families for a special screening of the animated movie “Dog Man”.

From the moment we shared the news with the children, their enthusiasm was contagious. The idea of going to the cinema, experiencing a big screen adventure, and sharing this moment with friends and family filled them with anticipation. Although some of the children had visited the cinema before, this experience still felt unique and special for all of them. They excitedly asked questions about the film, the characters, and what to expect, counting down the days until the event. As we arrived, the excitement only grew, with children eagerly settling into their seats, their eyes filled with wonder and curiosity.

The film “Dog Man”, known for its engaging storyline and uplifting message, captivated the audience from start to finish. It follows the adventures of a half-dog, half-man superhero who is always ready to stand up for what is right. The themes of friendship, courage, and perseverance resonated deeply with the children, making the movie not just entertaining but also inspiring. Each child found something to love, some were drawn to the humor, others to the bravery of the characters, and many simply enjoyed the thrill of watching an animated world come to life. The colorful visuals, dynamic action, and heartfelt moments kept everyone engaged, and it was a delight to see their reactions throughout the film.

As the credits rolled and the lights came up, the conversation didn’t stop. The children were eager to discuss their favorite characters, moments that made them laugh, and the lessons they took from the story. Some debated which character was the funniest, while others reflected on the meaning behind the film’s message. Parents, too, shared in the joy of the moment, seeing their children so engaged and expressive. For many, it was an opportunity to relax, bond, and momentarily escape the challenges of daily life.

The sense of community and shared experience was evident, this outing had provided not only entertainment but also a meaningful opportunity for connection. It was heartwarming to witness how an afternoon at the movies turned into an opportunity for engagement, creativity, and reflection.

We believe in creating spaces where refugee children and families can experience joy, build memories, and feel a sense of belonging. This cinema outing was one of those moments, simple yet impactful, reminding us all of the power of storytelling and shared experiences. These experiences are essential in helping children build resilience, confidence, and a sense of normalcy despite the challenges they may face.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to organizing more activities that bring smiles, spark conversations, and foster a sense of community among those we serve. Whether through film, art, sports, or other creative activities, we strive to provide opportunities for children and their families to feel seen, valued, and supported. This trip to the cinema was just one example of how small moments can create lasting memories and strengthen the bonds within a community.
